One of the most inspirational stories and songs you’ll ever hear

Ending today on a bit of a somber note.
Many of you are probably unaware, but today marks the 1 year anniversary of the death of Zach Sobiech.
For those of you who had never heard of him before now, Zach Sobiech was a kid pretty much like me and you. He enjoyed playing sports, spending time with family and friends, and just being a teeenage kid.
But, at 14 years of age, Zach was dealt a devastating blow. In a routine doctors visit to check up on a pain in his hip, Zach was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. At age 17, after several years of fighting, Zach and his family were informed that his cancer had spread. Faced with only months to live, Zach turned to music to help him say goodbye to the people he loved. What resulted was something more than he or his family could have ever imagined.
On December 12th, 2012, Zach Sobiech released his debut single, “Clouds” as a video on YouTube. Two days later, “Clouds” had gone viral, closing in on 300,000 views and reaching the hands of major news outlets throughout the country. By the time of Zach’s death, the song had reached over 11 million views.
A beautifully written song with a message of hope, “Clouds” brought Zach’s emotional and inspirational fight with cancer into the homes of millions of people. His strength throughout his battle, love for life, and bond with his family resonated with anyone who watched his story.
Proof of this was shown in early May 2013, when SoulPancake (Creators of the Kid President videos), with the help of a few friends, created a celebrity music video. Featuring over 20 well known celebrities singing along to “Clouds”, the music video helped to show just how big of an impact Zach’s song and message had and how many hearts he had touched.
Sadly, Zach Sobiech passed away May 20, 2013 at the young age of 18. Despite the incredible difficulty of dealing with a loss of a loved one, especially one so young, Zach’s family can help find solace in the lives that his story has touched, the millions he’s inspired, and the incredible moments they were able to share with him.
Although I never met Zach in my life, that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t impacted my life. I watched Zach’s ‘My Last Days’ episode on YouTube in April of last year and was instantly touched by his story. Seeing somebody so young, going through something so bleak and still having big dreams and an even bigger heart was nothing short of inspirational. Believe it or not, Zach’s story actually helped inspire me to create this website.
Though Zach Sobiech may be gone, his story and message will forever live on. His message of strength, courage, and hope will forever resonate in the millions of lives that he has touched, both in life and in death.
As Zach said himself, “You don’t have to find out you’re dying, to start living”
Rest in peace Zach
