Here’s a new band to tickle your fancy
Hailing from the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, D.C. is indie rock band, and George Washington University students, Bencoolen with their single “Waiting Room”.
Up until a few days ago, I had never heard of Bencoolen or had any idea they existed. That was until I received an e-mail from an individual who saw them open for Cold War Kids at GWU FallFest and insisted I listened. It’s funny, had I not received that e-mail,I would have had no reason to check out and listen to Bencoolen. Boy am I glad I did.
Featuring two guitars, a bass, drums, and a killer sax, Bencoolen has been bringing the jams to the Washington, D.C. college scene since their formation. In a scene dominated by electronic music and turntables, Bencoolen provides college students with an escape from the loud bass and heavy drops with their unique brand of rock music.
Oh, and did we mention they’re really good?
“Waiting Room” showcases each of the bands talents. Featuring driving guitars, impressive drum fills, a solid bass line and a killer sax solo, “Waiting Room” provides a sound unexpected from a bunch of college kids. Taking one listen to “Waiting Room”, it’s clear to see how Bencoolen opened up for Cold War Kids in front of 1000 screaming students.
Though this may be the first time you’re listening to Bencoolen, don’t think it will be the last. With a sound like theirs, you will be hearing plenty more from them in the future.
