This weeks artist spotlight belongs to Chicago based funk/hip hop group, whysowhite.

Formed in 2010, Chicago funk/hip-hop band whysowhite have quickly made a name for themselves within the music industry. Comprised of members big fat nick (vocals/percussion), charlie moonbeam (vocals), d-pop fantastic (vocals/congas), dngr (pronounced danger) miller (guitar), sugar sean candy carolan (bass), and brahmz, drumz, whysowhite has utilized their diverse personalities to create a unique sound, demonstrating that their creativity doesn’t end with their names.

Since the release of their self-titled debut album in February 2013, things have begun to pick up quickly for whysowhite. Their album found its way to the front page of leading social news site, Reddit (people familiar with this site know how big a deal this is), they were listed #1 on Bandcamp with featured coverage from Jay-Z’s Life + Times, and they performed several showcases at SXSW 2013, including a supporting set for Grammy winning artists Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Not a bad 2013 for a bunch of kids out of Chicago.

Through combing the elements of 4 genres, funk, soul, hip-hop and rock, whysowhite has been able to create a unique sound that has expanded their fan base and has people on notice in the music industry. Just from watching a music video or seeing them perform live, you can see the fun, love, and high energy that they bring into the studio, and their live shows.

2014 has already gotten whysowhite off to a quick start, recording a session with Audiotree.TV, releasing a music video for the fan favorite “Get Busy” off of their first album, working on their sophmore album (Due out Summer 2014!), and embarking on a 17 -date national tour, highlighted by stops in Austin, Texas for SXSW 2014!
