Take one listen and you’ll understand how and why.
When I first heard St. Paul & The Broken Bones a couple of weeks ago I was absolutely blown away. The vocals from lead singer Paul Janeway were some of the best that I have ever heard. Seriously though, this guy could sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and make it sound like the best song ever. Though it’s easy to give all the credit to Paul Janeway, you can’t take away from the talent of the rest of the band. Highlighted by a complete, and booming horn section, the talented musicians help create the gospel influenced, neo-soul, garage sound that makes St. Paul & The Broken Bones so unique and special.
Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, you can hear the influence that their upbringing has brought to their music. Janeway’s religious upbringing and choir experience brought a heavy gospel element to his singing style, while the bands Southern roots are shown in their southern rock/soul sound. It’s the perfect combination that creates a near unforgettable sound.
Having recently released their debut album, Half The City, St. Paul & The Broken Bones have once again found themselves the recipients of mountains upon mountains of praise. I scanned through the album throughout the week and loved every minute of it. Highlighted by their leading single, “Call Me”, St. Paul & The Broken Bones deliver solid song after solid song, from start to end. I highly recommend after reading this you all head over and check it out!
